Ventrolla completes Edwardian sash window renovation for Torrdarach House

Ventrolla, a market leader in heritage restoration and renovation of timber sash and casement windows, has successfully completed a meticulous refurbishment of the historic Torrdarach House B&B, a listed Edwardian property in Pitlochry, Scotland.
Torrdarach House, which was built in 1901 is renowned for its distinctive pink hue, a key characteristic of its listed status. When Graeme Fish and his partner Susanne Wallner acquired the property they embarked on a comprehensive renovation, prioritising the retention of original features, particularly the numerous sash windows.
Given the substantial number of windows across the property, the restoration was strategically phased over several years during the time the B&B was closed to guests. Thanks to the Ventrolla perimeter sealing system (VPSS), the required 3mm gap around the sash no longer led to rattles and loss of heat. It also improved the window energy rating (WER) by up to 30%.
Graeme Fish, owner of Torrdarach House, said; “When we first purchased the property, we loved the windows. But on closer inspection we noticed several problems. Alongside being painted over and over, many windows were sealed shut causing a potential fire hazard. The sills at the top of the windows were also pointing inwards, allowing rainwater to go into the lintels.”
“Ventrolla were fantastic from day one. They went into every detail of what could be achieved and showed examples of windows that had gone from battered to beauty following restoration. The biggest difference we noticed was the draught proofing Ventrolla carried out. The previously draughty windows are now sealed and retaining heat in the rooms. We couldn’t be more grateful for Ventrolla, I’m confident the windows now have another 100 years in them!”
Mark Flanagan, Managing Director of Ventrolla, added; “Working on a property like Torrdarach House is truly a gift. Maintaining the features of the property and respecting the Edwardian architecture was at the forefront of our minds, so to be able to achieve all that, bring the sash windows back to life and improve the draughtproofing absolutely exceeded all expectations. A big thanks to Graeme and Susanne for trusting us with their property.”
