Ventrolla and The Building Centre

Ventrolla, the UK’s leading timber sash window renovation specialist, is working with The Building Centre to promote sustainable building practices through the Retrofit 25 initiative. This collaboration underscores Ventrolla’s commitment to preserving architectural heritage while enhancing energy efficiency.

The Building Centre: A Hub for Innovation

First established in 1931, The Building Centre serves as a central hub for the built environment, offering exhibitions, events and resources that help promote innovation in architecture and construction. Operated by the Built Environment Trust, the Centre provides a platform for professionals and the public to engage with sustainable building practices and materials.

How Ventrolla and The Building Centre work together

Ventrolla’s mission to restore and retrofit windows into heritage and historic properties aligns seamlessly with The Building Centres focus on sustainable building solutions. Bu advocating for the preservation of existing structures, Ventrolla contributes to reducing the environmental impact associated with demolition and new construction. Ventrolla’s expertise in upgrading heritage windows also helps to enhance energy efficiency while maintaining the historical integrity of the building itself.

Ventrolla is also a sponsor of Retrofit 25, and the team are actively participating in talks and exhibitions throughout the event. Attendees will find the latest innovations in window design and technology, as well as having the opportunity to explore interactive demonstrations and standout window solutions like vacuum glazing.

Dave Tiller, Technical Manager at Ventrolla is a key speaker in the upcoming talk ‘Retrofit Talks: Closing the Retrofit Skills Gap”. This will discuss the ways those in the industry can work together to equip workers with retrofit skills, therefore helping to make the sector fit for the future. A report by Charlotte Ravenscroft, who is heading up the talk, states that in order to build a skilled workforce capable of retrofitting millions of homes for improved energy efficiency, we must align training, funding, and policy interventions.(1)

About Retrofit 25

Retrofit 25 explores the solutions that are helping us navigate the barriers and uncovering opportunities involved in retrofitting our build environment. As we face the pressing challenges of climate breakdown, economic instability and social inequity, this exhibition will inspire you to consider moving past what’s stopping us from retrofitting.

The tools, technology and approaches to retrofit our built environment already exist. Now communities, industries and policymakers must come together to make retrofit a reality.

The themes of the Retrofit 25 exhibition are;

  • Communities: Unlocking the potential for community-led retrofit to transform local relationships and buildings
  • Hearts & minds: Challenging perceptions about building and ownership types to prioritise retrofit over more wasteful alternatives
  • Jobs: Equipping workers with retrofit skills, and making the sector fit for the future
  • Carbon & materials: Considering the whole life cycle of retrofit projects to prioritise carbon reduction, sustainability and resilience
  • Innovation: Harnessing new technologies, processes and data-driven solutions to accelerate and scale up retrofit
  • Money: Driving retrofit through innovative financial models and economic opportunities
  • Ethics: Transitioning to sustainable buildings via ethical practices
  • Whole value: Exploring retrofit’s wider benefits, including improved health and wellbeing

By exploring key themes, Retrofit 25 highlights how we can overcome the barriers to retrofit – showcasing existing practical and innovative solutions. Each theme addresses crucial ways to help create built environments that serve the needs of current and future generations.

This exhibition is a call to action. It’s time to ask ourselves what’s stopping us from delivering a retrofit revolution, and use this knowledge to transform our buildings, our communities and our environment.(2)
