Precision Heritage
The transformation of The Grand Hotel, Brighton is a testament to unparalleled craftsmanship and collaboration. Through the unwavering commitment of our team, this project was executed flawlessly and on schedule.
Location
Birmingham
Standing proudly on Brighton’s famous seafront since 1864, The Grand Hotel is one of the South Coast’s most recognisable Victorian landmarks. Its ornate façade and traditional sash windows form an integral part of the city’s architectural heritage — demanding meticulous care throughout a £1.3 million window and refurbishment project.
Tasked with enhancing both performance and preservation, the Ventrolla team delivered extensive works to the hotel’s external façade and interior windows, operating within a carefully managed floor-by-floor programme on a live site.
Respecting the hotel’s historic character was paramount. Following a detailed survey, we installed 119 new double-glazed sash windows, replacing 17 windows on each of the floors. Where original box frames remained serviceable, new double-glazed sashes were integrated to retain period detailing. Communal areas were sensitively renovated, and key façade elements carefully restored.
All works were delivered within a structured programme, typically completing one floor per two-week phase, ensuring smooth progression and uninterrupted hotel operations.
With the hotel fully operational throughout, coordination was critical. Restricted working hours, controlled access and carefully sequenced installations ensured guest comfort and safety remained uncompromised. Despite the logistical complexity of working across multiple levels, the project was completed on time and within programme.
The Grand Hotel Brighton project demonstrates how heritage architecture and modern performance standards can coexist seamlessly. Each sash was carefully manufactured to complement the building’s original Victorian proportions while significantly enhancing thermal and acoustic performance.
Delivered within a live hospitality environment, the transformation stands as a testament to precision heritage craftsmanship, thoughtful planning, and collaboration. The result is a façade that retains its historic grandeur while meeting modern standards, and protecting the past and safeguarding this iconic Brighton landmark for generations to come.
TECHNOLOGY
We installed our innovative draught-proofing technology as standard. The process involved removing old lead windows, a labour-intensive task carried out with precision. We protected each window with a high-quality paint finish and added electric blinds for enhanced privacy and energy efficiency.
Sash Removal System (SRS) is discreetly mounted in the side of the sash, allowing safe and easy removal of both the upper and lower sashes to give free access to the window box frame, and is not visible either internally or externally during the normal operation of the sash window.
Our innovative draught-proofing technology creates an effective barrier against cold air entering the property. Expertly installed brush piles discreetly seal gaps without hindering window operation, maintaining both aesthetics and functionality.
