Renovation of Original Sash Windows in Listed Building

“In poor condition”. That was the unflattering description that the owner of a listed home gave to her original sash windows. For the property in the Bridge of Allan Conservation Area, that was just the tip of the iceberg:

“The windows in my property were old and had been painted over which meant I was unable to open them. The windows were draughty, and noise was an issue. The timber was in poor condition and detracted from the appearance of the home.”

When the time comes to renovate or repair windows in listed buildings, the challenge is to find an effective solution to the list of concerns, whilst preserving the charm of the original windows and meeting listed building regulations. Ventrolla is a natural choice.

As timber sash window specialists Ventrolla can replicate existing windows. Using traditional joinery methods our team of joiners skilfully craft windows that are consistent with the originals right down to the last detail, matching both appearance and quality of construction.

Following our customer’s enquiry, a member of the Ventrolla team completed a window-by-window survey of the property and drew up recommendations. The homeowner chose to replace the original windows and introduce timber double glazed sashes to improve energy efficiency, and make her home more peaceful.

Our local installation team completed the work, fitting new windows and installing Ventrolla’s Perimeter Sealing System, a process that upgrades the windows’ performance, reducing heat loss, and eradicating the bothersome draughts and rattles.

“Since the windows have been installed they have made a huge difference to the external appearance of the property. The windows were required to look the same as the window I had before, however the end result is far more impressive than the original windows.”

The homeowner admitted that she had not been looking forward to having her windows installed. Understandably, for some the thought of having people working within their home isn’t particularly appealing. We recognise this and are driven to minimise disruption and keep our customers informed every step of the way.

“I found the thought of getting replacement windows quite daunting. The staff at Ventrolla were very professional, yet friendly, and were always quick to reassure from the initial stages through to the completion of work.”

“Ventrolla offer a high quality product and service to match. I’m delighted with my stylish, draught free windows.”

We have over 35 years of experience with listed building timber window renovations and repairs.
