Bespoking sash windows for a 200-year-old Georgian home.
With a vision in mind but little more than the skeleton of a building, homeowners Louis and Haley turned to Ventrolla to bring their timber sash windows back to life during their extensive renovation project.
Situated in a conservation area in South Staffordshire, Dunsley House is a listed white-painted Georgian residence that Louis and his wife Haley had admired for three years before finally making it their own. Built in 1820 by the local Hancott family, the property was leased to the Girls’ Friendly Society in 1900. It is believed to have served as a hospital for injured soldiers during the Second World War and a refuge for Dudley Zoo’s animals during the bomb raids. Preserving this rich history on such a scale required the precision, fastidiousness and expertise of Ventrolla.
When we first met Louis and Haley at Dunsley House, renovation work and an extension were already underway. During our complimentary consultation, we determined that 12 sash windows could be restored to their original condition. In addition, 18 other windows – either beyond repair or in new openings – required bespoke timber replacements to match the original design and meet modern performance standards. This was all done with the consideration that the building is in a conservation area and on green belt land.
Preserving the character of Dunsley House while enhancing its functionality was high on the couple’s agenda. Rigorous quality and performance checks at every stage of the project guaranteed that each window was integrated to the highest standard, ensuring Dunsley House will live to see another century.

Louis Smith, homeowner
“We were impressed with Ventrolla’s efficiency from start to finish, especially as they had to coordinate with our extensive internal refit.”
“Ventrolla understood the importance of preserving our home’s original features, ensuring the windows in the extension were in keeping with the rest of the house.”
“The previous owners mentioned the house was cold in winter, but after having the Ventrolla Perimeter Sealing System fitted, we found the house to be warm and comfortable.”
TECHNOLOGY
Drawing on decades of artisanal experience, the master craftsmen of our joinery house replicated the original profile of each window meticulously. For all windows – restored, renovated, and replaced – we sympathetically installed our innovative Ventrolla Perimeter Sealing System (VPSS), eradicating draughts and rattles and significantly improving energy efficiency. What’s more, by opting to renovate 12 sash windows, we reduced the project timeline by 16%, just in time for Christmas.
SRS
Sash Removal System (SRS) is discreetly mounted in the side of the sash, allowing safe and easy removal of both the upper and lower sashes to
give free access to the window box frame, and is not visible either internally or externally during the normal operation of the sash window.
VPSS
Our innovative draught-proofing technology creates an effective barrier against cold air entering the property. Expertly installed brush piles discreetly seal gaps without hindering window operation, maintaining both aesthetics and functionality.

“The beauty of this property was that we were able to renovate almost half of the original windows. We were able to restore the windows to their original beauty whilst also improving energy efficiency.”
