Sash Windows Repaired at Grade II Listed property

Key features: Domestic, Grade II Listed, Conservation, Sash Windows, Renovation, Georgian.

Ventrolla has helped put the finishing touches to a £60,000 renovation project at an historic family home in Ormskirk.

The renovation was started three years ago by Glen Pearson, who now lives in London but wanted the property looking its best for his parents. Mr Pearson said:

“We have had a great deal of work done to improve Chapel House, including new roofing, drains, internal wiring and plasterwork. Unfortunately, my mum has since passed away while my dad is living in sheltered accommodation and, with the renovation now complete, we are looking to sell the property. It is a fantastic family home with extensive gardens and many of the original period features retained. We contacted Ventrolla to try and solve the issues we were experiencing with the windows in the hope that they could restore the original units rather than replace them.”

“The timber itself was generally in pretty good condition, but we couldn’t open many of the windows because they had been painted shut. Ventrolla were able to free up the mechanisms and then draught proof the windows effectively in order to reduce the amount of external noise coming in. The house is near a main road and since the repairs we hardly notice any traffic noise at all.”

Ventrolla, specialists in the renovation of timber sliding sash and casement windows, assessed the extent of the damage and managed to restore 11 of the 12 sashes at Chapel House, with the final sash needing complete replacement due to it being beyond repair. The team also carried out minor repairs to the French doors.

Chapel House is a seven bedroom Grade II listed property, situated within a conservation area. Features include; beamed ceilings in a number of rooms, open fireplaces, brick built coal stores, a solid walnut staircase and a cellar with a vaulted ceiling.

Ventrolla’s central office is based in Harrogate, North Yorkshire, with offices throughout the UK and Ireland, and offers a bespoke renovation service for timber sliding sash and casement windows, as well as timber doors. Its unique Ventrolla Perimeter Sealing System (VPSS) improves a window’s performance and energy efficiency.
