Sash Window Restoration in Conservation Area

The homeowner of a Victorian property in Colchester said goodbye to draughts, and reduces energy bills, after sash window restoration from Ventrolla.

Mr. Ford instructed Ventrolla to restore six sash windows at the front of his semi-detached property, which dates back to the 1880’s. The property is situated in a conservation area and the window specialists avoided altering the original design of the exterior by preserving the original sash windows. Mr. Ford said;

“I like the idea that the windows have been in place for over a hundred years and I hope that by renovating them I will be able to preserve them for another hundred years.

“With energy costs always rising, it made sense to take measures to insulate the house. The main bedroom is at the front of the property and although the house is not on a busy road, with the old windows there was still a substantial amount of traffic noise.”

“The windows are so much easier to open and close now and I am looking forward to a draught free winter.

After living in the property for ten years Mr. Ford decided to have the repairs carried out. The priorities were to limit disruption from outside noise, reduce unnecessary heat loss and lower his energy bills.

Along with fully restoring the windows, Ventrolla installed its unique Perimeter Sealing System into the gap around the sashes. The seal is designed to eradicate draughts and rattles, while ensuring that the sliding action of the windows becomes smooth, making the windows fully functional once again.

The newly restored sash windows spoke for themselves, and inspired two of Mr Ford’d neighbours to seek Ventrolla’s help with renocating their own period windows.

With over 35 years’ experience, Ventrolla offers a tailored range of period window solutions including repair and renovation, new timber windows, secondary glazing solutions and a wide range of window hardware.

The company’s head office is in Harrogate, North Yorkshire, with regional offices located throughout the UK and Ireland.
