Britain is renowned for its extreme weather conditions and there is one particular victim that suffers the most – timber window sills.
Window sills get the full brunt of the weather, come rain or shine and rainwater is the main culprit of rotting timber sills, whilst sunlight can be just as damaging as the rays crack the paint, allowing moisture to creep in.
To tackle these issues Ventrolla, the sash window renovation specialist, has perfected a repair and renovation service to upgrade worse-for-wear sills.
Ventrolla repair a window sill by removing any rotten timber – this can include routing out the rotten timber, taking the sill down to sound timber and either splicing in new timbers or filling the cavity with their special unique two-part epoxy resin and wood stabilizer – the Ventrolla VR90 Wood Repair System.
However, if the damage to the window sill means it is beyond repair, Ventrolla are able to carry out a full sill replacement, including a new lower box assembly. This involves taking the full sill away and the lower part of the box (or “frame”) in order to remove all the rot, whilst ensuring the new sill and frame still retains its strength and integrity. This system is more effective than others, who are known to just remove the ‘nose’ of a sill which may not get rid of all the rot, and creates a new join that can allow moisture in, thus being the cause of more rot in the future.
Any exposed timber is then primed by your Ventrolla Installer, ready for you or others to finish off with a final coat of paint to completely weather-seal the new sill.
Homeowners who would like help in protecting their window sills against the British weather can contact Ventrolla for a free, no-obligation survey. This will determine the extent of the damage and enables Ventrolla to offer advice on repair or replacement options.
