One of the main inherent problems with sash windows and other original wooden windows are draughts and rattles.
Draughts impact on the number of air change rates in a room and so subsequently, the amount of energy you spend reheating air that is displaced.
To minimise this you can install a quality draught proofing system, such as the Ventrolla Perimeter Sealing System, tested to British Standards (BS) 6375 Part 1 2004, which is the most rigorous standard for measuring the air infiltration performance of windows.
Independent testing by the British Board of Agrément (BBA), assessment report number 2771, has shown that Ventrolla’s Perimeter Sealing System (VPSS) meets the highest requirements of BS 6375, achieving the highest standard; Class 3, which is equivalent to winds of up to 71 mph.
By installing Ventrolla’s Perimeter Sealing System, the air-permeability, and subsequently air-change rates, are significantly reduced - down to 0.4 acph.
