Catherine Wheel

The Catherine Wheel has been taken over by JD Wetherspoon, who upgraded the pub prior to its recent re-opening in November. Ventrolla, the UK’s market leader in the renovation and upgrading of sash windows, helped to bring the windows of the listed building up to modern standards, without altering their traditional appearance.
Ventrolla South East has recently moved to new offices in Henley, enabling the company to provide Ventrolla's national sash window renovation service from a local base.
The Catherine Wheel is a well-known landmark in Henley, and an impressive property with parts dating back to the 17th and 18th century. Due to its listed building status, main contractors, Multibuild Limited and architects, Murdoch Bowers & Associates, who did the renovation, were keen to ensure that all work was carried out in accordance with its original authentic style.
Architect Keith Paine commented: "Initially we had considered using double glazing, to improve the windows, but were constrained by the historic nature of the building. As a sympathetic alternative we decided to opt for Ventrolla’s service to repair and upgrade the original window, and we are more than happy with the end result."
Ventrolla South East carried out the renovation of windows on the front façade of the first and second floor of the Catherine Wheel. This required the replacement of several cills and sashes to match the existing windows. Ventrolla then introduced their unique draught proofing and window upgrading system to improve the comfort of the upstairs rooms.
Ventrolla's award winning System improves the performance of traditional sash windows to levels comparable with those of double-glazing, significantly reducing noise levels, virtually eliminating draughts and rattles, and ensuring that sashes slide open efficiently.
Ventrolla South East was delighted to win this contract, which was a significant commercial order for the local franchise of market leading window specialists, Ventrolla.
