THE SOLUTION’S CLEAR FOR THORESBY HOUSE
Ventrolla has successfully renovated around 60 problem sash windows at Leeds City Council building, Thoresby House.
The sash window renovation specialist was called in to rectify cord problems with the windows that each stand over six feet tall.
The office block, which primarily houses the building planning department for the council, is situated over five floors and was originally a Victorian school built around 1890.
Thoresby House and its windows were refurbished in 2003, but the work failed to fix the balance problems the windows were suffering.
Frank Rounding, Building Surveyor for Leeds City Council, explained: “With the windows being so big, they were very troublesome. The supporting cords would only last a year and have to be replaced, which wasn’t very cost effective.
We went to Ventrolla as they are specialists in this field and the problem has now been solved. We were very impressed by the professionalism of the installers, the quality of the job and the way it was safely handled.”
Ventrolla commented: “The Thoresby House renovation posed several health and safety questions since the windows were situated high above a pedestrian walkway.
We had to ensure the safety of our installers and make sure passers-by weren’t at risk, so we cordoned off the public footpath below where we were working.
As the building is a working office, we had to coordinate a schedule with the council to minimise disruption caused to the occupants’ day to day activities.
The job was a success and it was very fulfilling to be able to play our part in improving this historical landmark building.”
Ventrolla’s central office is based in Harrogate, North Yorkshire, with offices throughout the UK and Ireland, and offers a bespoke renovation and performance upgrade service for timber sliding sash and casement windows.
