PHILLIPS FARM HOUSE, MOLLESTON

21 May 2010

Leaking windows are a thing of the past for period homeowners Olwen and John Phillips.

The couple instructed Ventrolla to renovate seven timber sliding sash windows at their Grade II listed Georgian farmhouse in the Welsh village of Molleston near Narberth after repeated problems with leaks and draughts.

Olwen said: “During heavy rainfall the windows would often let in water because they were not correctly sealed.  We spoke to our neighbour who had experienced similar problems and recommended us to try Ventrolla.

“They were able to renovate each window, which saved us the expense of full replacement, and the quality of the workmanship was excellent.”

Ventrolla started the renovation process by repairing damaged woodwork, although a number of sills and parting beads did have to be replaced due to extensive rot.

The company then applied its unique Ventrolla Perimeter Sealing System into the 3mm gap surrounding each sash.  The seal allows for smoother movement, reduces rattles, stops dust and water ingress and keeps external noise to a minimum.

To complete the project Ventrolla installed it’s Sash Removal System, which enables easy cleaning, painting and future maintenance from inside the building.

Olwen said: “The improvement in performance is so noticeable and we have enjoyed our first winter in a long time without the need for mops and buckets!

“We have also found the Sash Removal System very easy to operate and are in the process of painting the interior woodwork.

“All the damaged windows were at the front of the property because they are the ones most exposed to the elements.  But over time we hope to have further work carried out at the rear and wouldn’t hesitate to call Ventrolla back in a second time.”

The Phillips family are dairy farmers by profession and their house is situated on a working dairy farm.  The property has been in the family since the 1860s and Mr Phillips lived there during his childhood.

Ventrolla offers a bespoke renovation service for timber sliding sash and casement windows as well as timber doors.  The company has its central office in Harrogate, North Yorkshire, with additional locations throughout the UK and Ireland
